Braille Transcribing

The Instructional Resource Center offers a computer-based braille embossing service for the Department of Rehabilitation Services and their clients, AIDB clients, and the Program for Exceptional Children and Youth (PECY) of the Alabama State Department of Education.

We will accept braille embossing assignments from participating programs and their affiliates, state agencies, blind consumer organizations and other non-profit programs. The material must be entered onto a 5- 1/4 inch, high-density disc as ASCII files. Control characters should be removed. Submitting agencies are strongly advised to keep a back-up disc.

We have the equipment to translate the material into braille and produce an interpoint embossed copy. There is no charge for agencies participating in the program. Non-participating agencies, however, will be charged 40 cents per braille page and $4.00 per binder to cover the cost of materials. There is no labor charge for producing braille materials.
