Descriptive Video Service

People eligible for the talking book program are invited to take advantage of our descriptive video lending service. Other people can find descriptive videos at their local library or purchase them directly from DVS, Descriptive Video Service.

Descriptive videos are ordinary movies and shows which have been specially narrated to include the visual aspects of the film in a verbal context. People who can't see well enough to watch movies or television can watch all the latest movies and not miss a minute of the action.

DVS through Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations
Many Public Broadcasting Service stations also have programming available with DVS, which you can access at home for no charge. Favorite children's shows like Arthur, Kratt's Creatures, Mister Roger's Neighborhood, and Wishbone are all offered with DVS, as are other favorites like The American Experience, NOVA, Mystery! and Nature.

Most major PBS stations in Alabama offer this service. Call and ask your local station if they have DVS programming, and then look for the "second audio program" (SAP) switch on your stereo TV or VCR. Flip it to the "on" position.
