Johnson Scholarship  

Many graduates of the Alabama School for the Blind and Alabama School for the Deaf choose to pursue two and four year college degrees. The Johnson Scholarship program helps provide limited funds to support our graduates in their efforts.

In 1916, Nellie Hall Johnson, created the school’s first endowment in memory of her late husband and AIDB’s second president, Dr. Joseph Henry Johnson. Jr., to provide scholarships for AIDB students “who have reached a degree of excellence to continue his or her education in the college of their choice.”

The Johnson Scholarship Fund awards at least two scholarships each year. Awards are for four (4) academic years (eight (8) semesters) or until program completion – whichever occurs first.  Recipients are required to be enrolled full-time as defined by the college or university in an institution of higher education for each month they receive scholarship funds.  Additionally, all recipients are required to maintain an overall “C” (2.0) average or better in order to remain eligible to receive funds.
