Alabama School for
the Blind's Instructional Resource Center for the Blind provides
Braille and large-print books, materials and other services to all blind
and visually impaired students in Alabama - at AIDB and in public
schools. AIRCB also operates a Braille and large print production
service for textbooks, manuals or other printed resources requested by
colleges, businesses and individuals.
Large print and
Braille books are purchased from special media vendors and checked out
to students who are blind or who have low vision for the length of the
school year, then redirected to another student or school system as
needed. When Braille and large print books are not available for
purchase from these special media vendors, they are produced at the
AIRCB. Last year, the AIRCB had more than 500 requests for Braille
books, statewide. AIRCB also functions as a lending library for Braille
and large print books, recordings and descriptive videos for blind
adults in the area.

The
AIRCB is also home to the National Library Service Subregional Library
for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. For more information about
this service, our descriptive video service, DVS and braille
