Mrs. Jessica Chapa, Director

Mrs. Jessica Chapa is the Director of Short Term Programs at the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind. Prior to this position, Mrs. Chapa was a teacher at the Alabama School for the Blind where she taught for twelve years as an elementary and middle school teacher. She obtained her B.S. in Elementary Education from Jacksonville State University. Mrs. Chapa went on to obtain her M.A. in Special Education with a concentration in Visual Impairment from the University of North Dakota. During the same time, she became Library of Congress certified in Braille.  Later, she also obtained her UEB (Unified English Braille) certificate. Recently, she obtained her certificate in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama.

Mrs. Chapa has been married for 17 years. Her husband is the Operations Coordinator for the AIDB North Campus. She and her husband have one daughter. Mrs. Chapa enjoys traveling, cycling, and reading in her spare time.

Mrs. Christy Kochie, Administrative Assistant III

Mrs. Christy Kochie is the Administrative Assistant for Short-Term Programs, Gallaudet University Regional Center (GURC) South, and the Southeastern Interpreter Guidance Network (SIGN), among other programs at the AIDB North Campus. Prior to this position, Mrs. Kochie was an Administrative Assistant at the AIDB E.H. Gentry Campus. She provided support for multiple departments, such as Deaf Services, Employment Services, Alabama Initiatives for Children and Youth who are Deaf-Blind, RISE-Autism, and I Can Connect (ICC). Mrs. Kochie is also a Support Service Provider (SSP) for people who are DeafBlind. She gives them environmental information and helps facilitate communication. Mrs. Kochie grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated with an Associate's Degree in Administrative Support Technology from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. 

Mrs. Kochie is married to Mr. Matt Kochie, the IT Coordinator for the AIDB North Campus. They have two daughters. She enjoys kayaking, hiking, baking, and spending time with her family.
