Dr. Bateman began her career as a Teacher and Journalism Advisor at Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. She then transitioned to Daphne High School in Daphne, Alabama where she served as a Teacher and Journalism Advisor before becoming the Curriculum Leader. Dr. Bateman has also served as an Adjunct Professor teaching Dual Enrollment English 101 and 102 at Bishop State Community College and Coastal Alabama Community College.

“I am looking forward to learning a new language, a new culture, a new position, and working with a population of students that I have never worked with before. This is the challenge I have been looking for in education,” said Dr. Bateman. “I began taking American Sign Language classes in January because I wanted to learn a new language. When this position was posted in May, I knew I had to apply. Sometimes the puzzle pieces are right in front of your face and you know that if you don't put them together, the ‘what-ifs’ will haunt you. So, I put the puzzle pieces together and filled out the application. I am so glad that I did.”

Dr. Bateman earned a Bachelor of Science in English and Secondary Language Arts, a Master of Education in Secondary Language Arts, and an Instructional Leadership Certificate from the University of South Alabama. She went on to earn a Doctor of Education in Educational Research and Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
