Resolution: Alabama School for the Blind Boy’s Track Team

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Boy’s Track Team competed in the annual South Central Association for Schools for the Blind competition, hosted by Alabama School for the Blind, April 11-12, 2025, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Boy’s Track Team competed against teams from Mississippi School for the Blind, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Oklahoma School for the Blind, Louisiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Georgia Academy for the Blind, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Boy’s Track Team clinched the overall championship with a final score of 301 points, a resounding victory over Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired whose final score was 127 points, Georgia Academy for the Blind whose final score was 66 points, Oklahoma School for the Blind whose final score was 59 points, Louisiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired whose final score was 58 points, and Mississippi School for the Blind whose final score was 54 points, and

WHEREAS, the 4x100 Relay Team including Chilton Ashley, Ricky Weaver, Christopher Weaver, and Karsen Pate won first place; the 4x400 Relay Team including Chilton Ashley, Ricky Weaver, Christopher Weaver, and Karsen Pate won first place, and the 200 Meter Shuttle Team including Ricky Weaver, Kentavious Tinniehill, Diego Perez, and Andre Garrett won first place, and

WHEREAS, the following students won first place in individual events: Andre Garrett in the 60 Meter Dash and 200 Meter Dash, Christopher Weaver in the 800 Meter Run B/C classification, Charlie Seabolt in the 800 Meter Run A/B classification, Ricky Weaver in the 1600 Meter Run, Chilton Ashley in the High Jump B/C classification, Jordan Jones in the Shot Put B/C classification, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Boy’s Track Team includes Eighth Graders: Chase Williams of Owens Cross Roads, D’Shawn Shealey of Sylacauga, Diego Perez of Enterprise, Karsen Pate of Talladega, Gavyn Petrino of Talladega; Freshmen Cedric Caver of Talladega, Dalton Harris of Talladega, Charlie Seabolt of Montgomery, Andre Garrett of Huntsville; Sophomores William Burgess of Altoona, Clinton Sanders of Five Points, Gaspar Vargas of Clanton, Chilton Ashley of Talladega; Juniors Jordan Jones of Birmingham, Christopher Weaver of Talladega, Ricky Weaver of Tuscaloosa, Kentavious Tinniehill of Talladega; Seniors Buckley Williams of Danville, David Ventura of Titus, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Boy’s Track Team was trained and led to the overall victory and other honors by Coaches Troy Haynes, Josh Haynes, and Amber James.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates the Alabama School for the Blind Boy’s Track Team for its victories and extraordinary performances in the South Central Association for Schools for the Blind Track and Field Competition.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coaches Troy Haynes, Josh Haynes, Amber James, and the Alabama School for the Blind Boy’s Track Team and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
