Resolution: Alabama School for the Blind Girl's Track Team

 A track team group photo with members wearing gray uniforms and standing on gym bleachers.During their May 2025 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of the following resolution honoring the Alabama School for the Blind Girl's Track Team. 

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Girl’s Track Team competed in the annual South Central Association for Schools for the Blind competition, hosted by Alabama School for the Blind, April 11-12, 2025, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Girl’s Track Team competed against teams from Mississippi School for the Blind, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Oklahoma School for the Blind, Louisiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and Georgia Academy for the Blind, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Girl’s Track Team claimed the overall championship with an impressive final score of 246 points, outperforming Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired with 142 points, Georgia Academy for the Blind with 82 points, Louisiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired with 84 points, Oklahoma School for the Blind with 61 points, and Mississippi School for the Blind with 9 points, and

WHEREAS, the 4x100 Relay Team, including Macey Wilson, Shymiriya Broadnax, Brittney Gardner-Braxton, and Taelor Robinson won first place; the 4x400 Relay Team, including Macey Wilson, Aracely Domingo, Brittney Gardner-Braxton, and Taelor Robinson won first place; and the 200 Meter Shuttle Team, including Clara Scelsi, Taelor Robinson, Ameerah Jones, and Shymiriya Broadnax won first place, and

WHEREAS, the following students won first place in individual events: Taelor Robinson in the 100 Meter Dash and 1600 Meter Run, Shontia Weaver in the 400 Meter Dash B/C classification and Shot Put A/B classification, Clara Scelsi in the 400 Meter Dash A/B classification, Brittney Gardner-Braxton in the 800 Meter Dash B/C classification, Shymiriya Broadnax in Long Jump B/C and Triple Jump B/C classifications, and Ameerah Jones in Long Jump A/B classification, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Girl’s Track Team includes Seventh Graders: Aracely Domingo of Gadsden, Ava Brakefield of Pell City, Sereniti Sanders of Gadsden, and Macey Wilson of Weaver; Freshmen: Ameerah Jones of Montgomery and Clara Scelsi of Pell City; Sophomores: Lily Hearn of Lincoln, Shontia Weaver of Tuscaloosa, and Shymiriya Broadnax of Montgomery; Junior: Brandee Long of Springville; and Seniors: Charne Ford of Birmingham, Taelor Robinson of Center Point, Saja Elawad of Opelika, and Brittney Gardner-Braxton of Gadsden, and
WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Girl’s Track Team was trained and led to the overall victory and other honors by Coaches Troy Haynes, Josh Haynes, and Amber James.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees recognizes and commends the exceptional performance, dedication, and sportsmanship of the Alabama School for the Blind Girl’s Track Team for their outstanding achievement in the 2025 South Central Association for Schools for the Blind Track and Field Competition.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates the Alabama School for the Blind Girl’s Track Team for its victories and extraordinary performances in the South Central Association for Schools for the Blind Track and Field Competition.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coaches Troy Haynes, Josh Haynes, Amber James, and the Alabama School for the Blind Girl’s Track Team and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
