During their May 2025 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of the following resolution honoring the Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team. 

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team traveled to the Oklahoma School for the Blind to participate in the annual South Central Association for Schools for the Blind competition, on January 23-26, 2025, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team competed against teams from Mississippi School for the Blind, Oklahoma School for the Blind, and Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team clinched the overall championship with a total team score of 130 points; soundly defeating Oklahoma School for the Blind who scored 118 points, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired who scored 84 points, and Mississippi School for the Blind who scored 20 points, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team includes Senior Buckley Williams of Danville; Juniors Jordan Jones of Birmingham, Christopher Weaver of Talladega, and Ricky Weaver of Tuscaloosa; Sophomores Shontia Weaver of Tuscaloosa and William Burgess of Altoona; Freshmen Andre Garrett of Huntsville, Dalton Harris of Talladega and Jaxson Stephens of Alpine; Eighth Graders Karsen Pate of Talladega and Diego Perez of Daleville; and

WHEREAS, the following Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team Members won first place in their respective weight class: Diego Perez, Ricky Weaver, Andre Garrett, Christopher Weaver, Jordan Jones, Dalton Harris, Shontia Weaver, and

WHEREAS, the following Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team member won second place in his respective weight class, Jaxson Stephens, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team was trained and led to the overall victory and other honors by Coaches Troy Haynes, Josh Haynes, and Jimmy Dean.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates the Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team for its victories and extraordinary performances in the South Central Association for Schools for the Blind wrestling competition.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coaches Troy Haynes, Josh Haynes, Jimmy Dean, and the Alabama School for the Blind Wrestling Team, and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
