During their May 2025 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of the following resolution honoring the Helen Keller School of Alabama Volleyball Team. 

WHEREAS, the mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community, and

WHEREAS, Helen Keller School of Alabama (HKS) participates in Special Olympics, providing HKS student-athletes with the opportunity to realize their full potential and develop their skills through year-round sports training and competition, and

WHEREAS, the HKS Volleyball Team has been named the State of Alabama Special Olympics Volleyball State Champions after a resounding victory at the State Volleyball Tournament, where they competed on December 6, 2024, at Faulkner University, and 

WHEREAS, the team played a round-robin style tournament, playing against teams from Lee County, Mobile, Tuscaloosa County, and Exceptional Foundation, defeating Lee County in a best-of-three playoff with scores of 25 to 18 in the first game and 25 to 16 in the final game, and

WHEREAS, the team was comprised of students Keimonta Carr of Cottondale; Conrad Chapman III of Eastaboga; Paris Kennie of Marion; Gabriel Locker of Talladega; Grey Mayfield of Helena; Chanz McCall of Birmingham; George Meyer of Eastaboga; Ja'Carah Pritchett of Camden; Tierece Wilson of Birmingham; Nikki Yates of Delta; and

WHEREAS, the team was coached to victory by Coach Mallory McGuire.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates the Helen Keller School of Alabama Volleyball Team for their victories and extraordinary performances in clenching the Special Olympics State of Alabama Volleyball Championship. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Mallory McGuire and the Helen Keller School of Alabama Volleyball Team and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
