Resolution: Dave Talley, Blind Worker of the Year
During their May 2025 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of the following resolution honoring Dave Talley, Jr. as the 2025 recipient of the Peter J. Salmon Award.
WHEREAS, Mr. Dave Talley, Jr. has been named Blind Worker of the Year by Alabama Industries for the Blind, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Talley is the 2025 recipient of the Peter J. Salmon Award which honors employees who excel in their positions at National Industries for the Blind associated agencies, and
WHEREAS, the Peter J. Salmon Award is named for the late Dr. Peter J. Salmon, who was instrumental in the passage of the Wagner O-Day Act and the formation of the National Industries for the Blind. Nominees for the Peter J. Salmon Award are people who are blind and currently employed in a direct labor manufacturing or service operation in a National Industries for the Blind associated nonprofit agency. Nominees are evaluated for the award based on job performance and positive activities in both the workplace and in their communities, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Talley serves as the Lead Clerk at the Base Supply Center at the Moody Air Force Base where he plays a crucial role in maintaining the front inventory in an organized and efficient manner. He mentors his colleagues daily, fosters a positive and knowledgeable work environment, and collaborates closely with management to ensure accurate customer billing and timely payments, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Talley brings extensive expertise across all Base Supply Center operations, assisting with deliveries, sales, marketing, and leading monthly Government Purchase Card training. He instinctively steps in wherever needed and is known for his enthusiastic personality, warm demeanor, and signature big smile, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Talley’s meticulous attention to detail results in consistently accurate work, making him a highly reliable team member. His exceptional customer service skills and proactive approach make him an invaluable asset. Mr. Talley has received three challenge coins from various Air Force Chiefs for outstanding professional performance, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Talley has a deep personal connection to the Base Supply Center through his family's history at Moody Air Force Base. His father, a retired Master Sergeant, and his mother both dedicated over 20 years in Civil Service. Dave grew up with two brothers and has lived in multiple states and overseas due to his father's military service, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Talley has taken general college courses and plans to pursue a degree in Logistics. He is a devoted member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, where he participates in services and community outreach, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Talley aspires to follow in his father's footsteps by transitioning into a Civil Service position specializing in Logistics and Transportation, using his experience at the BSC to launch a long-term career in this field, and
WHEREAS, Mr. Talley is a dedicated and adaptable employee who is respected by his co-workers and admired by customers.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates Mr. Dave Talley, Jr. for being named the Alabama Industries for the Blind Worker of the Year and receiving the Peter J. Salmon Award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Dave Talley, Jr. and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
