Position:       Substitute Bus Guide

                        Substitute Bus Driver

                        Local Transportation Department

 

Work Schedule – as needed not to exceed 29 hours a week

Position Requirements:

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be physically able to perform job
  • Must follow all AIDB policies and procedures and state and federal laws
  • Must remain awake and alert at all times
  • Must be able to adhere to confidentiality requirements
  • Must be able to handle emergency situations in a calm manner
  • Must have the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Upon offer of employment, the ABI/FBI record check must be completed based on the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 pursuant to Act 2002-457. A non-refundable fee of $46.90 is required at the scheduled appointment.  Suitable criteria must be confirmed by the Alabama State Department of Education prior to beginning to work. 

POSITION REQUIRMENTS AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs duties in the absence of full time AIDB staff as required for position including, but not limited to the following:

Substitute Bus Guide:

  • Assist Bus Route Driver by providing safe environment for AIDB’s students or clients.
  • Provide assistance to sensory impaired passengers as needed. This may include administering medication, changing diapers, securing students in car seats, maintain discipline.
  • Secure and be accountable for all medications issued by Health Services or parents.
  • Maintain accurate student roll.
  • Handle and report discipline problems in accordance with school guidelines.
  • Remain calm and handle emergency situations as they arise.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.

Substitute Bus Driver:

  • Must hold a valid Alabama Bus Driver License.
  • Provide safe and timely transportation for AIDB’s students or clients.
  • Abide by all federal, state, local, and AIDB rules, regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Complete and turn in all paperwork required by AIDB transportation department.
  • Keep bus on regular schedule.
  • Never leave a student unattended at his/her stop without permission.
  • Communicate efficiently on 2 way radio and/or cellular phone.
  • Will be responsible for cleanliness of bus interior.
  • Handle and report discipline problems in accordance with school guidelines.
  • Be available for parent/student/principal conferences.
  • Perform acceptable pre and post trip inspection and report any problems.
  • Keep accurate and truthful time sheet for payroll purposes.
  • Remain calm and handle emergency situations as they arise.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PAYROLL:    $15.64 hourly rate
