POSITION:     Network Manager

AIDB Office of Information Technology


  • Bachelor of Science Degree and three years experience in the following areas:
  • Managing local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and/or virtual local area networks (VLANs), including network design, deployment, and security
  • Troubleshooting network equipment, performance and firewalls
  • Troubleshooting computer hardware and software


  • Five years experience in the areas listed above:

Other requirements for this position include the following:

  • Demonstrate ability to develop, manage, and coordinate network operations in a Windows OS environment
  • Experience with VOIP technology
  • Experience managing DNS
  • CCNA and/or Adtran certification must be obtained within the first thirty (30) months of employment and current status must be maintained
  • Some overnight travel will be required
  • A sign language proficiency level of SURVIVAL according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first thirty (30) months of employment
  • Upon offer of employment, the ABI/FBI record check must be completed based on the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 pursuant to Act 2002-457. A non-refundable fee of $48.15 is required at the scheduled appointment.  Suitable criteria must be confirmed by the Alabama State Department of Education prior to beginning to work.


The responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain and/or install critical platforms such as Meraki, Cisco, Adtran, wireless networks, access points, switches, cabling and other network hardware/software
  • Manage and maintain network security, to include VPN, firewall applications, and remote access
  • Design and document network operations and report on network status
  • Recommend policy and system needs concerning network related technology
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage various network hardware and server replacements as needed
  • Manage and maintain VOIP network and systems
  • Implement and maintain content filtering for AIDB networks
  • Work as a team member with IT Staff providing on-call technical assistance and troubleshooting as required
  • Work with Metro E, T1, MPLS, and BGP technologies
  • Install and repair fiber connections
  • Install network equipment and monitor the network’s performance
  • Perform network testing, upgrades, updates and patches
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers to resolve issues and outages
  • Provide training for AIDB and IT staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of IT

SALARY:       $42,325 - $63,664       Scale PI Rank 53

                        (260 Days)

                        Direct deposit is required. Monthly Payroll

This is an exempt position, and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
