The Instructor Assistant works as part of the MGH Instructional team to provide therapeutic riding, recreational riding, hippotherapy, equine facilitated learning, and ground classes to the students of AIDB. They are responsible for the recruitment, training, and supervision of all work experience students.  The Instructor Assistant must comply with all Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) standards, assist with special events, and assist in record management within the therapeutic riding program.

 ABOUT YOU

You will play a vital role in the lives of our students.  You will become a part of the miracles that happen every day at AIDB.  You will display a positive, approachable and professional demeanor and will serve as the first point of contact with our students, staff, and parents.  You will be able to work independently, as well as with a team.

 BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year equestrian related work experience.
  • Knowledge of Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) guidelines, rules and regulations governing an accredited operating center and must be able to assist in the maintenance of all records associated with student and barn activities.
  • Must possess a valid Alabama Driver License and obtain an Alabama School Bus Driver License and CDL within the first twelve (12) months of employment and be insurable by the AIDB insurance carriers.
  • Must be able to maintain rapport with students, staff, parents, other AIDB department personnel and administration.
  • Must possess basic computer skills
  • Experience working with individuals who are blind, low vision, deaf, hard of hearing or deaf/blind.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Must obtain a good standing individual membership with PATH.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours (after school and some weekends).
  • Must complete and maintain PATH Registered Instructor certification within the first thirty (30) months of employment.
  • Must complete and maintain CPR/First Aid training to include child and adult CPR within the first twelve (12) months of employment.
  • Must be willing to attend meetings, workshops and/or seminars related to issues of best practices in the therapeutic riding fields.
  • Assist in coordination of the scheduling of classes for ground, hippotherapy, therapeutic riding, EFL and recreational riding with the campuses of AIDB.
  • Assist in the instruction or coordination of all classes including barn safety.
  • Assist in maintaining records and reports as required for classes.
  • Supervise and teach safety to all volunteers, personnel and students.
  • Oversee the recruitment, scheduling and training of student workers.
  • Assist in organizing activities for students/student workers and volunteers in the Special Equestrian Program.
  • Work cooperatively as a member of the MGH Instructional Team and be willing to assist in the training and exercising of program horses.
  • A sign language level of INTERMEDIATE according to the AIDB evaluation system must be obtained within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.
  • Upon offer of employment, the applicant must submit to a fingerprint background check at an agency designated and paid by AIDB

 Hourly Rate: $15.03 - $17.67          Scale C3         Rank 31 (207 days)       

 Direct deposit required.

Annual salary based on hours scheduled to work each academic school year (207 days)

This is a non- exempt position and is subject to overtime and/or compensatory time provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
