AIDB Welcomes New School Resource Officer

Deputy Abrams looks to camera. Deputy Matt Abrams has joined the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) team as a new School Resource Officer (SRO). While SROs are technically employed by the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office, the position is funded by AIDB.

AIDB’s SROs help to protect the students and staff at AIDB by doing walk-throughs at Alabama School for the Blind, Alabama School for the Deaf, and Helen Keller School of Alabama as well as working with students in the classroom and residential settings. You’ll also see Deputy Abrams working in the bus line and in other settings to help ensure the safety of our students.

Deputy Abrams has been in law enforcement for 15 years. Prior to joining the Talladega Sherriff’s Office, Abrams worked with the Sylacauga Police Department. While in Sylacauga, Abrams also worked as an ambulance driver. Abrams is married to his wife, Haley, and together, they have 3 children.

With the addition of Deputy Abrams to the team, AIDB has three SROs protecting its Talladega Campuses.

Welcome, Deputy Abrams!
