AIDB Partners with Local Agency to Provide Safe Drug Disposal
AIDB employees and local community members who are looking to dispose of excess or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications can now visit a safe and secure permanent drop off location in the Senior Services office located in the AIB building.
AIDB has partnered with the Agency for Substance Abuse Prevention to establish a permanent MedReturn drug collection program in order to reduce the supply of drugs that can potentially harm teens and adults. Properly disposing of excess drugs is everyone’s responsibility as a matter of public safety. More than 70% of young people abusing prescription pain relievers get them through friends or family, a statistic that includes raiding the family medicine cabinet. Now, AIDB employees won’t have to wait for a specific drug take-back day to clean out their medicine cabinets.
The collection site is open Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Drugs can be placed in the locked, steel box with no questions asked. The box will be emptied, and the contents incinerated, by the Talladega County Drug Task Force.
