Kristen DeLauney, Au.D., Named Director of Audiology

Dr. Kristen DeLauney has been named Director of Audiology in the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind department of Health and Clinical Services. Dr. DeLauney has over 10 years of audiology experience with over half of that being in the field of pediatric audiology.

"I am passionate about working with children who are Deaf and hard of hearing," said Dr. DeLauney. "As AIDB’s Director of Audiology, my hope is to assist students in reaching their goals and pursuing their dreams through making sure that communication is not a barrier. I want to work alongside teachers and students to provide the best educational environment for the greatest possible promotion of academic outcome."

Dr. DeLauney graduated from Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Chemistry. She received her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of South Alabama, where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA and received the Outstanding Doctor of Audiology student award in her graduating class.  She completed her audiology externship as a trainee of the UAB Maternal and Child Health Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities program at the Civitan-Sparks Clinic. She also served as a pediatric audiologist for the Alabama Department of Rehabilitative Services Children’s Rehabilitation Services department where she provided comprehensive audiological services to children from birth to 21 years of age. 

Dr. DeLauney has been a part of the AIDB family for the past 5 years as a parent to two Deaf children.  Her son, Max, attended ASD until he passed away from congenital heart defects in 2017. Her son, Miles, currently attends the Helen Keller School. Before Dr. DeLauney was a parent of Deaf children, she had the opportunity to take a tour of AIDB when she was employed at Children’s Rehabilitation Services. It was during that tour that she realized AIDB was where she wanted to be one day.
