Rachel Neighbors Named Alabama School for the Deaf Career Technical Education Director
Rachel Neighbors has been named the Career Technical Education Director for the Alabama School for the Deaf (ASD).
“I am excited to have Ms. Neighbors as the new ASD Career Technical Education Director. She brings leadership to ASD in the Career Tech Department, along with high expectations and knowledge to help each student thrive and succeed in the classroom and the workforce,” said Paul Saunders, Ed.S., Principal, ASD. “She has a mission that is focused on each student's limitless potential in their career path, and we will see that impact for years to come here at the Alabama School for the Deaf.”
Neighbors is a graduate of The University of Tennessee where she earned her master’s in Deaf Education. Upon graduation, she began working at the Georgia School for the Deaf where she was a teacher and assistant coach to the girls’ basketball team. Neighbors then moved to the Tennessee School for the Deaf (TSD) where she taught in the Student Transition Education Program. Neighbors eventually became the lead Work Based Learning Teacher/Coordinator at TSD where she taught Career Exploration, Science, and Math.
While in Georgia, Neighbors met her husband. They married in 2015 and had their first daughter in 2017. Their second daughter was born in 2020, right after COVID-19 caused the world shut down. “The whole family is very excited to be here in Talladega,” Neighbors said, “where we can be closer to our friends and family and work at such an incredible school.”
