Alabama School for the Blind Student Government Association Makes Donation to Samaritan House

ASB Students pose with Samaritan House volunteers for a group picture. The Alabama School for the Blind Student Government Association (SGA) has been leading a school-wide drive to raise funds and canned goods for Samaritan House, a food pantry that serves the local community. Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, SGA officers delivered over 140 cans of nonperishable food items and over $300 to the Samaritan House.

“We are so proud of the SGA! They worked hard to develop a plan to give back to our local community,” said Jessica Chapa, one of the SGA sponsors and a teacher at Alabama School for the Blind.

Along with coordinating the canned food drive, the SGA also planned a movie day for the elementary school and for the high school; charging an admission fee and for popcorn and drinks.

Alabama School for the Blind SGA officers are Jacquez Wright, President; Narissa Swaim, Vice President; Tamya DeWitt, Secretary; Daymion Winfrey, Treasurer; and Danay Jackson, Motivational Leader. The SGA is sponsored by Jessica Chapa who teaches 5th, 6th, and 8th grade; Brooke Foster who teaches Family and Consumer Science; and Kim Munroe who teaches High School History.
