During their February 2023 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of the following resolution honoring Blind Worker of the Year the 2023 recipient of the Samuelson Award, Marquita Young. 

WHEREAS, Marquita Young has been named Blind Worker of the Year by Alabama Industries for the Blind, and

WHEREAS, Ms. Young is the 2023 recipient of the Samuelson Award, and

WHEREAS, Ms. Young is a graduate of the Alabama School for the Blind, and

WHEREAS, Ms. Young joined the production team at Alabama Industries for the Blind in 2011, and

WHEREAS, Ms. Young began job shadowing staff members of Alabama Industries for the Blind as a part of the Upward Mobility Program, and

WHEREAS, Ms. Young has completed the Alabama Industries for the Blind’s Upward Mobility Program, and

WHEREAS, in 2022, Ms. Young was promoted to the position of Production and Inventory Technician, and

WHEREAS, Ms. Young is a dedicated and loyal employee, and

WHEREAS, Ms. Young enjoys playing video games, cooking and grilling, spending time with family and friends, playing several instruments and singing.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates Ms. Young for a job well done in demonstrating the limitless spirit of AIDB in being awarded the Samuelson Award. 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Young and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
