Resolution: ASB Girls Track
During their May 2023 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of the following resolution honoring the Alabama School for the Blind Girls Track Team.
WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind (ASB) Girls Track Team competed against five other states to win the South Central Association of Schools for the Blind (SCASB) track and field competition title in Texas in April 2023, and
WHEREAS, the ASB Girls Track Team received a total team score of 275.5, trumping Mississippi’s score of 106.5, Oklahoma’s score of 101.5, Georgia’s score of 78, Louisiana’s score of 49, and Texas’ score of 51.5, and
WHEREAS, ASB Girls Track Team member Belle Williams was named Most Valuable Female Athlete B & C Class, and
WHEREAS, the following ASB Girls Track Team members won first place in their respective competitions: Shymiria Broadnax in the long jump; Tamya Dewitt in the triple jump; and Belle Williams in the 1600 meter run and high jump; and
WHEREAS, the ASB Girls Track Team was trained and led to the overall victory and other honors by Coach Amber James, and
WHEREAS, the ASB Girls Track Team includes Tinsley Andrews, Shymiria Broadnax, Zoe Catoe, Tamya Dewitt, Braxton Gardner, Brittney Gardner-Braxton, Cassidie Gorig-Worrell, Shardae Gray, Diamond Jackson, Ameerah Jones, Chrislynn Oliver, Taelor Robinson, Abby Theiss, and Belle Williams, and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates the ASB Girls Track Team for their victories and extraordinary performances in the SCASB Track & Field competitions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Amber James and the ASB Girls Track Team and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
