During their November 2023 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of honoring the Helen Keller School of Alabama Golf Team with the following resolution. 

WHEREAS, the Helen Keller School of Alabama golf team competed in the 22^nd Annual Special Olympics North America Golf Championship, sponsored by the National Alliance for Accessible Golf, on October 2-5, 2023, at the Seaview Golf Club in Galloway Township, New Jersey, and

WHEREAS, over 200 athletes and unified partners from throughout the United States and Canada competed in Individual Stroke and Unified Team play, and

WHEREAS,  North American Programs in Alabama, Connecticut, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia competed, and

WHEREAS, Helen Keller School of Alabama was represented by students George Meyer and Tierece Wilson, and

WHEREAS, the team competed in the Level 1 Individual Stroke competition which includes drive, chip, pitch, long putt, short putt, and iron shots, and

WHEREAS, George Meyer competed in three rounds and won gold in his division with a final score of 159, and

WHEREAS, Tierece Wilson placed fourth in his division with a final score of 135, and

WHEREAS, the team was coached by Lanier Corbitt and Mallory Corbitt, and

WHEREAS, prior to the competition, the team toured New York City where they visited the 9/11 Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square, and Grand Central Station. While in the city they ate a slice of New York pizza at the famous Joe’s Pizza, had New York cheesecake from Juniors, and a full Italian feast at Carmine's. During the competition, they made many friends and danced the night away at an event organized by the Special Olympics North America to live music provided by a current contestant on the Voice, Mara Justine.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates the Helen Keller School of Alabama Golf Team for their victories and extraordinary performances in the 22^nd Annual Special Olympics North America Golf Championship.    

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coaches Lanier Corbitt and Mallory Corbitt; and the Helen Keller School of Alabama Golf Team and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
