Resolution: Alabama School for the Blind Girls Track Team
During their May 2024 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of the following resolution honoring the Alabama School for the Blind Girls Track Team.
WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Blind (ASB) Girls Track Team competed against Mississippi School for the Blind, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Oklahoma School for the Blind, Louisiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Georgia Academy for the Blind at the South Central Association of Schools for the Blind (SCASB) track and field competition at Louisiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired April 11-13, 2024, and
WHEREAS, the ASB Girls Track Team won the SCASB championship with a total score of 267, a dominating victory over their competitors Oklahoma School for the Blind who scored 86, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired who scored 83, Louisiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired who scored 56, Mississippi School for the Blind who scored 36, Georgia Academy for the Blind who scored 23, and
WHEREAS, the team also won first place in the Shuttle Relay, 4x100 Relay, 4x400 Relay, and
WHEREAS, the following ASB Girls Track Team members won first place in their respective competitions: Brittany Gardner-Braxton, 400 Meter B Class; Shardae Gray in the 400 Meter A Class and 800 Meter A Class; Taelor Robinson in the 100 Meter A Class, and
WHEREAS, the ASB Girls Track Team includes Chrislynn Oliver from Midland City; Taelor Robinson from Birmingham; Tamya DeWitt from Center Point; Clara Scelsi from Pell City; Shontia Weaver from Tuscaloosa; Abby Theiss from Valley Grande; Brandee Long from Springville; Ameerah Jones from Montgomery; Diamond Jackson from Montgomery; Zamrye Hayes from Midfield; Shardae Gray from Ozark; Brittany Gardner-Braxton from Gadsden; Braxton Gardner from Gadsden; Shymiria Broadnax from Montgomery; and
WHEREAS, the ASB Girls Track Team was trained and led to the overall victory and other honors by Head Amber James and Assistant Coaches Troy Haynes and Josh Haynes, and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates the ASB Girls Track Team for their victories and extraordinary performances in the SCASB Track & Field competitions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Head Coach Amber James and Assistant Coaches Troy Haynes and Josh Haynes, the ASB Girls Track Team and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
