Resolution: ASD Girls' Track

 Nine track athletes and their coach look to the camera from the A.S.D. Track.During their August 2024 meeting, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees voted in favor of the following resolution honoring the Alabama School for the Deaf Girls' Track Team.

WHEREAS, competition among Schools for the Deaf around the country carries deep significance for the student-athletes who compete. More than an opportunity for student-athletes to represent their schools on a national level, it is a chance to forge lifelong relationships and memories, and

WHEREAS, recognizing that each member school abides by its own local sports governing body, the National Deaf Interscholastic Athletics Association (NDIAA) provides uniform minimum standards for interstate games and tournaments that keeps competition fair, and

WHEREAS, the NDIAA has recognized the Alabama School for the Deaf Girls’ Track Team as the winner of the National Championship for Division II, and

WHEREAS, the Alabama School for the Deaf Girls’ Track Team had the best results among all other schools for the Deaf in Division II, which led to their selection for the National Championship in track and field over their competitors: Arizona State School for the Deaf and Blind, Arkansas School for the Deaf, Delaware School for the Deaf, Iowa School for the Deaf, Kansas School for the Deaf, Lexington School for the Deaf, Louisiana School for the Deaf, Marie Philip School at the Learning Center for the Deaf, Metro School for the Deaf, Michigan School for the Deaf, Minnesota School for the Deaf, Mississippi School for the Deaf, Missouri School for the Deaf, New Mexico School for the Deaf, New York School for the Deaf, Ohio School for the Deaf, Oklahoma School for the Deaf, Rhode Island School for the Deaf, St. Mary's School for the Deaf, Washington School for the Deaf, Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, Wisconsin School for the Deaf, and

WHEREAS, the team was comprised of Ke'Arrie Brooks, Aiyana Fanning, Airryelle Harris, Alarie King, Kamora McCurdy, Alyssa Thomas, Dejia Ware, Melika Washington, Debbie Wilkinson, and

WHEREAS, the team was coached by Chris Moon, Marvice Robinson, and Cedric Tyson.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees congratulates the Alabama School for the Deaf Girls’ Track Team for their victories and extraordinary performances in clenching the NDIAA Division II National Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coaches Chris Moon, Marvice Robinson, and Cedric Tyson; and the Alabama School for the Deaf Girls’ Track Team and a copy be spread across the minutes of this meeting.
